The Movement Diaries aims to inspire you to get active with confidence
Vitality research found that less than one in four women in the UK meet the NHS recommended physical activity guidelines and just 4% take part in team sports. So, to inspire more women to get active for their health, we have launched a new mini-podcast series, The Movement Diaries. In this first episode, our host, presenter and author Chessie King, was joined by journalist, Em Clarkson, to talk about movement, motherhood and women in sport. Tune in as the pair unpack how to stay fit as busy mums, overcoming barriers that women face to getting active. Plus, find out the self-love affirmations Em teaches her daughters.
We hope you enjoy watching our brand new series.
Mental health matters
A new study by NHS England has shone a spotlight on the mental health challenges facing Brits
The findings, published in the Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey, revealed the growing prevalence of poor mental health in 16 to 64 year olds. One in five adults recorded said they suffer from a common mental health condition, an increase of 5% since 2007; while younger adults, aged 16 to 24 saw an uptick of 8.3% over the same period. The research also states that today more than one quarter of young people are suffering with their mental health.

7 is the magic number
Walking just 7,000 steps a day could be the key to improving your health
The benefits of walking for your health have been well documented, even by us at Vitality. But new research has found that 10,000 is no longer the magic number when it comes to your step count. In fact, 7,000 is enough to protect you from a host of health-related problems, including cancer, dementia and heart disease. The findings are paving a new way in helping people achieve their health goals as 7,000 steps may be a more realistic achievement. Vitality members who achieve 7,000 steps are rewarded with 3 activity points towards their status. Make sure you’re getting yours by linking your smart watch or device.
